Will work for yoga

I have a new part-time job!  It’s very part time, only about 3 hours a week.  I’ll be assisting a yoga class every Monday at 6:30 and helping Angela with new students (setting up their auto-debit, calling them to ask if they have any questions, that kind of thing).  I even get a Yogasport “team” t-shirt and my picture and bio on the website.  Woohoo!

I’m a little worried that with a full time job and my new gig at yogasport I won’t have much free time, or time to work on my career change.  I’m sure I’ll just have to adjust my schedule.  I’d much rather be working at Yogasport than sitting at my house by myself.   I’ve actually been thinking about cutting out t.v., so that I have more time to work on my career change, read, and enrich my brain – not drain it.  I’ll probably stick with a few shows – Mad Men, Gossip Girl, Glee, The Office, 30 Rock – okay, that’s more than a few. That’s 4 hours of t.v. a week, 4 hours I could be spending doing something productive!  I guess you have to give yourself a break every once in a while.  We’ll see how that plan works.  I tried it out last night – I didn’t turn my t.v. on at all, instead I worked on emails, worked on career stuff, did a few other things, and felt so productive.  It was refreshing.  I think one of the main reasons I always have the t.v. on is I get lonely.  My house feels so empty and quiet – so the background noise staves off lonely feelings.  I don’t need to fill empty space with fluff and background noise!  We’ll see how it goes.

Finding my Mojo

On Thursday I drove to Austin to find my mojo, my career mojo that is.  My mom sent me an article a few weeks ago called Start Tackling Career Change on Your Lunch Break.  Renee Trudeau, a career and life balance coach and president of Career Strategists in Austin, was interviewed by the author.  I really love some of advice she offered, so I looked at her company’s website and discovered they were offering a workshop.   It was right up my alley – we talked a lot about being present, listening to your heart, along with analyzing your innate skills in order to determine a career path.  I have a lot of homework in need to follow-up on – in addition to a telephonic coaching session with a career counselor.  I think it’s really going to help me define some goals and create a vision for my future.

Sometimes I think Melody’s Beattie’s Journey to the Heart was written just for me.  Her book offers 365 daily reflections – one for every day of the year.  Her book was on our yoga training reading list, so I’ve been reading an entry almost every night since July.  Sometimes I don’t connect with them, but most of them time they are SO applicable.

For instance today, October, 1, 2008:

Are You Ready, Willing, and Able?

Have you cleared the path you want to travel? Are you ready, willing, and able to do whatever it takes to have what you want?
Decide what you want.  Be as clear as you can be.   Say it.  Write it.  Share your idea with a friend.  Then ask yourself if you are ready, willing, and able to do what it takes to have what you want.  Ask yourself that question as often as you need to.
Watch how you feel when you say what you want.  Look for objections, blocks from within, obstacles on your path.  Look closely at yourself, your fears, your angers, your resistance.  Let your feelings come up, acknowledge them, then let them go.  One after another remove the obstacles until you can clearly see your vision and your voice is strong and clear: I’m ready, willing, and able to have what I want and it’s in my highest good.

The way to your dreams, the way to make your
visions come alive is by taking a journey inside your
soul.  Are you ready, willing, and able to have what
you want?  Do you believe it when you hear yourself
say it?  When you do, the road will be clear, and
you’ll be ready to travel the path you desire.

How fitting.

I’ve been reading these daily reflections before bed every night, but I think I’m going to start reading them in the morning.  I tend forget about them when I read them at night, probably because I’m half asleep by the time I get around to reading.

Here We Go

Happy October! Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit

Happy October! Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit

I did it!  Woohoo!  Around three months ago today I decided to do a 200 hour teacher training program with Yogasport in Dallas.  Since moving to Dallas (January 2008) I’ve thought to myself  - one day I’m going to have one of those ‘aha’ moments when I realize THIS is why I ended up in Dallas.  Probably half way through training I realized Yogasport’s teacher training program was it – it is why I’m in Dallas!  I’ll be honest – I didn’t really think the day would come when I could say that, especially so soon after moving.  But it did, and Dallas is actually growing on me (don’t tell anyone:)  I met an amazing group of women in training whose strength and light I will carry with me for the rest of my life.  I still can’t believe I lived two blocks away from Yogasport for over a year and never stepped foot inside – it wasn’t until I moved 15 minutes away that I discovered the studio.  Funny how a series of serendipitous events land you somewhere you would have never imagined 4 months ago.

So – I’ve finished teacher training, now what?  I want to teach!  I have a few more loose ends to tie up – assisting a few classes, teaching a few more community classes, and teaching my first class in a real studio in 3 weeks (GAH!)

Without going into too many details, I’m not currently satisfied with my job, my living sitch, my city sitch or my long distance boyfriend sitch.  I need to make some changes.  The problem is, I’ve have a REALLY hard time committing to change.

This Yogini is ready to make a move!

I’m starting this blog to document my journey, keep myself accountable (now that training is over I want to follow through and teach regularly), discuss all things yoga, and share my passion for healthy living and eating.  And whatever else comes up.
